Peter Thoresen is an award-winning voice teacher, performer, and music director.

Peter Thoresen, DM is an award-winning voice teacher, performer, music director and writer. He maintains a thriving private studio in NYC and his students appear regularly on Broadway (Dear Evan Hansen, Caroline, or Change, Hamilton, Mean Girls, Kinky Boots, Beetlejuice & many others), off-Broadway, in national tours, and on TV & film. Voice faculty appointments include Interlochen Summer Arts Academy, American Voices, Musical Theater College Auditions, and Broadway Kids Auditions. Additionally, Peter serves as an adjunct voice professor at Pace University in the BFA Musical Theater program. Active in teacher training, he created and teaches Critical Firsts, a sequenced vocal pedagogy course for new voice teachers and other voice professionals. Peter also teaches a popular group voice class in Midtown Manhattan.
In an ongoing collaboration with Broadway Star Project (BSP), Peter has served as music director for the the studio recordings and live performances of The Holiday Star Experience (2018), and Cast Recording Experience (2018, 2019, 2022) with The Broadway Star Project in NYC, and appeared in their recently released music videos. He’s also served as an instructing coach with BSP for the Callback Challenge (2020), and has music directed BSP’s 2021 & 2022 Summer Intensives. Peter’s work with BSP can be heard on Spotify, Amazon, and Apple Music.
Each year, Peter performs and teaches internationally with the Association of American Voices, music directing and performing in their Broadway YES Academies in Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Indonesia and Turkmenistan, most frequently in a series of Broadway and classical academies.
Other AV highlights include multiple performances and teaching at the National Conservatory of Music in Turkmentisan, and a multi-city tour of Pakistan as music director and performer in the Broadway Bridges concert series.
Peter Sings
An active performer, Peter’s recent NYC operatic credits include the world premiere of Heartbreak Express (Lam), and a remount of Purcell’s The Fairy Queen, about which Broadwayworld.com reported that ‘Peter Thoresen’s singing of these parts is spellbinding.’
Select regional solo credits include the role of Julia Child in Lee Hoiby’s Bon Appétit with Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, for which Peter’s portrayal of the iconic chef was listed in the Top Ten Classical Music Concerts in Pittsburgh. Select solo operatic and oratorio credits include the role of Tolomeo in Handel’s Giulio Cesare ( IU Opera Theater), and alto soloist in J.S. Bach’s Weinhnachts Oratorium and Handel’s Messiah with Handel Choir of Baltimore. Additionally, he toured as a member of the Philharmonia Baroque Chorale in San Francisco, where he was also named district winner in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.

His articles are published regularly in Classical Singer Magazine, and many other trade publications, ranging in topics from music education & arts entrepreneurship, to music theory strategies and music in the home as it relates to early childhood cognition. He is proud member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).
